Florida Osprey Photography Workshops April. Pick a one day outing, a 2 day outing or a 3 day outing and get ready to capture incredible images of my favorite bird, the master of air and sea, the incredible Osprey!
In a beautiful area just south of Orlando, Florida there is a special place that time has forgotten. A lake where the shoreline is crawling with massive cypress trees, beautiful Spanish moss and the largest colony of nesting Osprey in the entire state. During the height of nesting season there are over 1000 birds packed into a very small area of shoreline. This is Osprey photography heaven and quite easily one of the best places to photography Osprey in the entire United states, maybe even the world. Here’s a video of my last visit to this incredible place.
This workshop is limited to 5 people per day.
Pricing: $450 per person.
A deposit will be required at the time of booking. Remaining balance is due 60 days before scheduled workshop.

Getting Here
These workshops originate in southeast Florida. Getting here is simple. If you are flying, fly direct into Orlando. From there, I suggest renting a car and heading into Vero Beach. All GPS systems will direct you to a toll road. Make sure your rental car has a toll pass or you have a small amount of cash and change on hand to pay the tolls. $10.00 should be plenty.
Where Should You Stay?
I highly suggest staying at one of the many hotels in Vero Beach. You will be required to drive yourself to the shoot location. The shoot location and time will be revealed when we get closer to the date. I’m going to be making this as simple as possible for you. The goal is to have a good time, see some mind blowing amazing osprey and take lots of excellent pictures. Here is a list of hotels in the area:
Holiday Inn Express Vero Beach-West (I-95)

What Should You Bring?
First and foremost, bring your sense of adventure. Bring your best long lens. As a bare minimum kit I suggest: One camera body and a telephoto lens. Full tripods will not be allowed. Space is limited. Tripods will only get in the way. You are welcome to use a monopod if you would like.
I suggest bringing your best camera body, a long lens and a wide angle lens. You won’t need anything over 500mm. The osprey are very close at times. I also suggest at least one wide angle lens. The landscape or waterscape that you will be experiencing is quite unique and well worth a photograph or two.
If you don’t own some of the above mentioned equipment, I do. You are welcome to use it in order to get a shot or two. Just remember that I am shooting Nikon and Sony gear. My Nikon gear won’t work if you chose Canon, Fuji or any other brand.
How Long Does the Workshop Last?
We will be departing the boat ramp at around 6:30 in the morning. We will be back at the boat ramp by 10:00 A.M. This gives us about 3.5 hours on the water in excellent lighting conditions. On my 1st visit, I shot just over 800 images. It is an amazing location and time will fly by very quickly. Make sure to have plenty of memory card space!
Clothing Choices
It doesn’t really get too cold in Florida during this time frame but we do get the occasional cold snap. We will be on the water early in the morning.
- I suggest long pants that are lightweight
- Closed toe shoes that are comfortable along with comfy socks
- A short sleeve shirt or long sleeve shirt that can be easily removed if things warm up a bit
- A hat
